INTRODUCTION

We had a vision for the finest Diving/Fishing experience in the Caribbean. The first question was where. The answer was simple, BELIZE. Why? Belize is the last great frontier in this hemisphere that still offers the peace of mind that vacationers want. It is an English speaking country with a democratic government and a culturally eclectic population of less than 250,000. Belize offers some of the most pristine diving and fishing opportunities in the world. Its proximity to the United States (approx. 2hrs from Houston or Miami) makes Belize a prime destination for American and Canadian travelers alike.

Especially untouched, are the areas of the three atolls that lie thirty to fifty miles offshore. Of these, Lighthouse reef is the most remote from the mainland. The diving and fishing here is said to be some of the best in the world. In the past, the only options for diving and fishing at this atoll, has been a grueling one-day boat trip, a two-day boat/camping trip from the mainland, a live aboard boat, or an all-inclusive seven-day package. Lighthouse reef atoll has three islands. The smallest, Half Moon Caye is a national park and offers camping only. The next smallest on the north end of the atoll is Northern Caye, and it is the home of the only resort in the area which offers a seven day all inclusive dive package. The southern and by far the largest of the three is Long Caye, privately owned and deserted up until now. It is presently being developed as a specially planned ecological community under the direction and blessing of the Belize government.

The northern tip of the island has the only dock on the island as well as a beautiful coconut palm lined white sand beach. This dock will be the home of the Belize Tradewinds "Blue Hole Resort" Diving/Fishing shop. The picture to the right is of the 400 ft of frontage directly west of the dock. It is the future home of Belize Tradewinds "Blue Hole Resort".

Long Caye (pronounced key, meaning island) is a Caribbean Island approximately 650 acres, 2 1/4 miles long off the coast of Belize, Central America. Only a few miles from the world famous Blue Hole phenomenon, this island is situated within the Lighthouse Reef Atoll (an atoll is a large lagoon with coral formations around its perimeter), just east of the Belize Barrier Reef, the second largest reef in the world. The Belize Barrier Reef contains the finest manifestation of coral reef ecosystems in this hemisphere, as well as a unique variety of marine life thriving in pristine conditions. The island itself is populated with many exotic species of birds, reptiles, plants and marine life, including some endangered species. Underwater explorer, Jacques Cousteau, filmed a documentary for National Geographic, at the world renowned Blue Hole, one of the world's best-known diving attractions.

The development of Long Caye will include residential, commercial as well as ecologically sensitive areas. A medical clinic (Long Caye Medical Clinic) has already committed to opening in 2003. We expect several more Commercial commitments in the next few months.

Long Caye is protected from severe weather by the reef formation. High and low mangrove plant communities can be seen throughout Long Caye, harboring nurseries for marine life as well as serving as a stopover and nesting area for a variety of birds. Nesters include, the Mangrove cuckoo (Coccyzus minor), Green heron (Butorides viriscens), Osprey (Pandion haliatus), Mangrove warbler (Dendroica petechia), Great-tailed grackle (Cassidix mexicanus), White-crowned pigeon (Columba leucocephala), and the Least tern (Sterna albifrons), to name a few.
