ECOLOGY & CONSERVATION
Ideally all development will be done using naturally sustainable materials collected on site. It will also generate its own energy from renewable sources such as solar or wind, and manage its own waste. Alternative energy, composting and recycling are just a few methods of self-sustainability that will be practiced on Long Caye. This is one of the first projects built strictly in harmony with the environment. The following features will be used throughout the village and the resort
- All toilets are composting-no septic or holding
- All non composted waste will return to the mainland for proper disposal
- Wind and solar power used where ever possible
- No foliage removal except for actual building space and trails
- No shore mooring of boats
- No extra docks
- All buildings on island subject to architectural approval to blend with one another and the environment
- Liberal green space ratios to buildings
- Shore line left undisturbed
